Many of you readers out there, don’t have a large enough budget to go for good 2.1 computer speakers, or you might find them too bulky, and the subwoofer takes up too much room. Bose has anticipated this and provided a really great solution to your problems!
Bose has always been a very reputable manufacturer of speakers, and although their computer speakers are generally pricey, they are worth every single cent due to their quality.
The least expensive speakers from Bose would be the Bose Companion 2. Even though it’s the cheapest Bose product, the Bose Companion 2 still delivers amazing sounds to your ears.
It also packs a few tricks up its sleeves, like the TrueSpace Stereo Signal Processing Circuitry, which we will be talking about later.

The Bose Companion 2 is designed to be slim and sleek, in order to conserve space and fit easily into any form of surroundings to save desk space.
At the rear of the speakers, you will notice that the speakers are pretty much elongated and each of them has an air vent. The air vents are for producing better lows in the sounds the Bose Companion 2 produces. A really thoughtful design!
The highlight of the Bose Companion 2 design is that it comes with dual inputs! What this means is that you can with extreme ease, connect your Bose Companion 2 to both your computer AND your portable audio sources (like e.g. your iPod).
As you can see, there are two sets of full-size stereo RCA inputs, one of them is meant for your PC.
You might be wondering how could you possibly connect RCA inputs to your computer, well Bose is well ahead of you when designing the Bose Companion 2. Bose included a minijack-to-RCA cable in order to allow you to easily connect the Bose Companion 2 to your computer!
The best part about the dual input is that when two inputs are simultaneously active (e.g. your iPod is playing music and your computer is playing a video), you will hear a mixed output (both sounds). This is very handy for multitasking.
Example, your iPod can be playing your favorite songs, yet you can hear important sound notifications coming from your computer at the same time!
The Bose Companion 2 is after all manufactured by Bose, a company known for producing great speakers. And we are not surprised to find that after an audio test, the Bose Companion 2 lives up to the quality and performance that we would expect from Bose.
The downside of most 2.0 computer speakers is that at loud volumes, your music would not sound as good, and the bass starts to get a little fuzzy.
However, the Bose Companion 2 showed no signs of such a flaw. Cascada’s “Everytime We Touch” produced a crisp bass with not a single hint of distortion, and the vocals were strong and piercing.
To ensure a fair test, we also played music that was not bass-heavy. 3 Doors Down “Be Like That” was our test track. And at extremely loud volumes, the guitar tones still sounded sharp and vocals were crystal clear, that is pretty surprising for us. After all most of the 2.0 speakers we tested will usually not perform well at high volumes.
We also put the Bose Companion 2 to the test by playing Unreal Tournament 3. The Bose Companion 2 managed to deliver clean sounds across the spectrum, the highs are sharp and the mids are crystal clear. The bass is pretty good as well in playing PC games, and the bass was sufficient to get the blood pounding in our heads.
The Bose Companion 2 is probably one of the best 2.0 computer speakers that can deliver such good bass. Of course, if you listen to loads of heavy metal, techno and bass-heavy genre of music, you might want to consider a 2.1 computer speakers system instead.
However, if you are looking for a solid 2.0 computer speakers system, you will not go wrong with the Bose Companion 2.

The thing that impressed us most about the Bose Companion 2 speakers was the consistency of the speakers.
This set of speakers was developed in such a way to deliver good quality sound without suffering too much on the loudness. Sure, it might not be the loudest 2.0 computer speakers on the market, but it definitely punches out quality.
Although the Bose Companion 2 speaker only has one driver, we are confident that it will do a much better job than other speakers with two or three drivers within the same price range. In short, if you need a CHEAP and RELIABLE computer speaker, go for the Bose Companion 2. You simply can’t go wrong with them.
